Punjab Observes Day of Protest in Response to Manipur Violence

Punjab Braces for Wednesday Shutdown as Christian Community Protests Against Manipur Violence

A Punjab-wide shutdown has been called for Wednesday by the Christian community, expressing discontent over the central government’s perceived failure to curb the ongoing violence in Manipur. This protest action is anticipated to disrupt normal daily activities.

The Ravidasia and Valmiki communities, which hold significant influence in the Doaba region, have thrown their support behind the bandh, indicating a potentially widespread impact.

Planned demonstrations are set to take place at key intersections in cities and satellite towns, and there are expectations of highway blockades as well.

In Jalandhar, a substantial number of market associations have already declared their intention to close shop in solidarity. However, the educational institutions remain in a quandary, as no official holiday announcements have been made by the administration. Consequently, school authorities are grappling with the decision on whether to observe the shutdown.
